Jillian Cardarelli: Country Music Star’s Cancer Diagnosis at Age 33

American country music star Jillian Cardarelli, 33, recently revealed that she has been diagnosed with breast cancer. The artiste, known for her country hits such as Over You Hangover, shared that she received a diagnosis of stage 2 invasive ductal carcinoma in May this year.

Cardarelli shared that she “had areas in my breasts that have been diagnosed with dense fibrous tissue since I was 25 years old” which made her undergo regular scans. However, this time, she “felt a little different” and she was “a little more tired” than usual.

“It was in an area of very dense tissue and I remember thinking, ‘Maybe I'm in my head a little bit. But something in my gut was like, ‘This feels a little bit different to me.' That's when I went and I got checked out and I found out that it was a malignant tumor,” she recalled.

When she first received her diagnosis, Cardarelli shared that she was shocked but not completely surprised as she “knew something in my body was different”. Cardarelli added that she has been taking care of herself both physically and mentally and felt “fear and sadness” when she learnt about her cancer.

“I'm like, why did this happen? I do not fit the profile of somebody that should get cancer at 33 years old. So yes, there's a little bit of anger there," she reflected. “One minute you're focused on filming schedules, scripts, music and everything and the next thing is doctors, scans, pathology reports and words I'd never even ... I feel like I'm learning a new language.”

Cardarelli has a family history of cancer, with her mother having been diagnosed with colorectal cancer. She shared that she was worried about how her cancer would affect her mother.

“The fact that my mother, who has had stage 4 cancer for the last 12 years, has to now help her daughter navigate this, is very unfair,” she said.

On June 26, 2026, Cardarelli posted an update on her Instagram, showing herself in the hospital receiving treatment. “Now it’s time to heal while we wait for the next step in my treatment plan,” she wrote.

She also thanked her healthcare team and everyone for supporting her and checking in on her. With her “first big step” now behind her, Cardarelli is “taking things one day at a time” as she looks towards recovering and overcoming her cancer.

By sharing her story, Cardarelli hopes that she can raise awareness about breast cancer and to encourage more women to undergo screening.

"I do trust that something good will come from this. My hope is that young women hear my story and understand the importance of knowing their bodies, trusting their instincts and advocating for themselves. If sharing my story encourages even one young woman to advocate for herself, listen to her body, or get checked sooner, then I believe there is purpose in this,” she shared.
