Former English soccer player and manager Kevin Keegan has recently revealed that he has stage 4 cancer. Keegan’s diagnosis was first announced to the public in January 2026, when his family made a statement sharing that a series of tests “have revealed a diagnosis of cancer“.

Who is Kevin Keegan?

Keegan is a former soccer player and manager known for his excellent dribbling ability. He rose to fame with Liverpool FC, where he won three First Division titles, the UEFA Cup twice, the FA Cup and the European Cup. After playing for a series of different clubs, Keegan eventually moved to Newcastle FC in 1982, where he helped the club to secure promotion to the First Division before retiring in 1984. During his career, Keegan also played regularly for the England national team.

After retiring as a player, Keegan went on to manage Newcastle FC in 1992, and the team got promoted to the Premier League as First Division champions in his first full season. Kevin Keegan's cancer diagnosis

Keegan’s diagnosis was first made public in an official statement released by his family in January 2026. After being “admitted to hospital for further evaluation of ongoing abdominal symptoms”, Keegan was diagnosed with cancer. At that point in time, his family stated that they were “requesting privacy, and [would]be making no further comment."

A few months later, Keegan returned to Newcastle for a live event, where he shared that he had stage 4 stomach cancer. "I was in a car accident and, through that, I had to have an operation. Whilst having the scan for the operation, they found out I had cancer. They said they had an absolute top doctor for fighting what you have got, which is stage four cancer,” he shared.
